my personal Sleepy Hollow tree -- h a p p y H a l l o w e e n !

It's been a while, but here's what I have been working on in my 3D art class. Because honestly finding time to work on my own art is so hard when school, work, and life keep a constant hold on my time as well. The materials that I used were cardboard and hot glue . . . and then I realized that this project was due just in time for . . . H A L L O W E E N ! ! ! My idea behind the project was with the ever technological increasing world I wanted m own Personal Forest. I kind of ended up with my own personal tree... It reminded me of Ichabod Crane and The Legend of Sleepy Hollow! (Putting on this "personal forest" I realized that it made me become a tree hugger) Here it is a bit later in the process... it's coming...slowly... At least it looks like a tree kind of thing...not exactly how I imagined... Here are some random sketches of a baby during church...they are not perfect, but I decided I needed to post some of the stuff that I just ...

Why Be a Well Rounded Artist?

When I was about thirteen I wanted desperately to become a portrait artist, and so in that effort I ONLY drew portraits. I read books on portraiture, and watched all sorts of art videos in hopes that my skills of being a portrait artist would develop. I thought that if I practiced drawing something else, like landscapes than I would lose my skills and understanding of human anatomy, proportions, and ultimately lose all that I had learned for portraiture. (Which wasn't that much at this point). I think many artists are much like I was. We go through a misunderstanding that TOTAL immersion is what will make somehow amazing. I have learned through trial and error that rarely does it ever work like that. As an artist it is OK to take a break from what you are serious about doing. I'm not saying that hard work doesn't pay off, because it does, but being able to shift your focus has SO many benefits! Expand your artistic knowledge Add new skills to your tool-box B...

Fear of Progression

Have you ever felt fear? Probably, in most cases...we all have! It's a very human emotion and quite normal to feel. Most everyone has felt fear of some sort. OK, I LOVE to be different, but also thrive on being accepted by those who are around me... a people pleaser. I love being able to set new goals and accomplish them against all odds, and one of the most enjoyable things is being able to see someone close to me pleased with my efforts. Thinking up a goal, or awesome ideas is really easy for me...but a lot of the time the hardest part is getting started. Most of the time this happens with my art; drawings and paintings. I have moticed that sometimes my ideas scare me so much that I end up never starting them at all; ending up in never starting anything new. You see, the fear of messing up on a painting, or drawing trumps the journey to learn and create. Somehow, everytime an idea pops into my head, also the opposite creeps directly behind. This opposite feeling ten...

This is a short and sweet little post. It's beginning to look like, feel like, and smell like fall!!!! This makes me so very HAPPY!!! This only means one thing...the wonderful chance to paint the beauty in such small and simple things!!! I'll be posting the finished painting soon :) l o v e , BriarRose

A m o r s a l of fall & thoughts on art -- Leonardo da Vinci

The only terrible thing about painting leaves is that after a couple of hours the subjects start to shrivel up and die even more. This makes it SUPER hard to paint because the shadows look different, the placement becomes super different, and the shape of the individual leaf itself becomes so entirely different! Despitre that factor of working with natural, living things ... I finished! I felt very accomplished... Of course I can see how to improve, but I ended up happy with the end result :) I thought this quote was VERY applicable. The fact of the matter is is that art is NEVER really finished, there is ALWAYS something more that you can work on, another thing that you can work on to improve... in the end art is only abandoned. The only different between never finishing something and finishing a study of art is the artist has to decide to move on, he has to choose to abandon that study and move on to something else...while still incorporating the skill and les...
